PixelNest Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the PixelNest application for Android and iOS (“PixelNest”, “the app”) handles your information.

Summary

PixelNest does not collect, store, or sell your personal data. The app has no developer-operated servers, no analytics, no advertising, and no crash reporting. It connects to the server (instance) that you choose and, when displaying content federated from other servers, may load media directly from those servers. Notifications are retrieved by the app periodically checking your instance; no third-party push service (such as Firebase Cloud Messaging or Apple Push Notification service) is used.

How the app works

PixelNest is a client for decentralized, ActivityPub-based photo sharing servers. When you sign in, the app connects directly to the instance you select. All content you view, post, like, or comment on is sent to and stored by that instance, not by us.

Each instance is operated independently by its own administrators and has its own privacy policy and terms. Please review the policies of the instance you use.

Data stored on your device

To provide its features, PixelNest stores the following data locally on your device only:

• Authentication tokens for the accounts you add, so you stay signed in. Your password is entered on the instance’s own login page and is never stored by the app.
• App settings, such as your selected theme (light or dark) and the list of accounts you have added.
• Cached content, such as images and posts, to improve loading speed.

This data is excluded from device and cloud backups (such as Google Drive or iCloud backups) and never leaves your device except when it is sent to your chosen instance as part of normal app use.

Data sent to your instance

When you use the app, the following is sent directly to the instance you are signed in to:

• Photos and videos you choose to upload, together with any captions, tags, and location names you type in. The app does not access your device’s location. Embedded photo metadata (EXIF), such as GPS coordinates, camera model, and timestamps, is removed before upload.
• Your interactions, such as likes, comments, and follows.
• Standard technical information that any network request includes, such as your IP address and the app’s user agent.

We do not have access to this data.

Other servers

Posts in your feed may come from other instances in the federated network. To display them, the app may load images, avatars, and videos directly from those instances or from the media storage services they use. These servers receive standard technical information, such as your IP address and the app’s user agent, and are governed by their own privacy policies.

Permissions

PixelNest may request the following permissions:

• Photos and media: to let you choose photos and videos to upload. The app reads only the items you select.
• Notifications (optional): to alert you about activity on your account, such as new likes, comments, or followers. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device’s settings.
• Internet / network access: to connect to your instance and other federated servers.

Data sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer any of your data to third parties, because we do not collect it.

Data deletion

• To remove data stored by the app, sign out of your accounts in the app or delete the app. On Android, you can also clear the app’s data in system settings.
• Signing out removes the stored authentication token from your device. To fully revoke the app’s access to your account, also remove PixelNest from the authorized apps list in your instance’s account settings.
• To delete your account or content on an instance, use that instance’s own settings or contact its administrators.

Children’s privacy

PixelNest is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in your country (for example, 16 in some EU countries), and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. Instances may set their own age requirements.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because we do not collect or process personal data, we hold no data about you to access or delete. For data stored by your instance, please contact that instance’s administrators. You can still contact us with any privacy questions using the details below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
